22nd East Asian Medical Students’ Conference, Kuala Lumpur 2009

EAMSC, a.k.a. East Asian Medical Students' Conference is an annual convention by the Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA).

The upcoming EAMSC will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!!! It will be hosted by Monash University, at Sunway Hotel.

So the details are as follows:

Venue : Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Date : 7th ~ 11th January 2009
Theme : Engaging Asia-Pacific Youth in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS
Host : Asian Medical Students' Association (AMSA) and Monash University

Supported by : Malaysia Aids Council

But this event is only opened to those who took part in the EAMSC poster competition as well as paper competition.

Some info about AMSA and EAMSC:

The Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) is a non-political, non-sectarian, and non-profitable student-led organization. Officially founded in Manila, Philippines in 1985, AMSA presently has 15 member countries: Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Kingdom.

AMSA’s Vision is Knowledge, Action and Friendship; the aim of AMSA is to promote cooperation amongst medical students in Asia and Oceania.

The EAMSC is one of the two conferences organized by annually AMSA, the other being the Asian Medical Students’ Conference (AMSC). It is hosted every January/February by one of the member countries/regions, and around 300 medical students gather to discuss medical and health problems, exchange knowledge, and learn about cultural diversities.

The theme of the 22nd EAMSC is ‘Engaging Asia-Pacific Youth in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS’. The incidence and prevalence HIV infections in Asian countries have exploded over the past decade. Furthermore, many important prevention interventions, such as harm reduction among intravenous drug users (IDU) and condom promotion, are still severely under funded in many countries. Evidently, the issue of HIV/AIDS in the Asia-Pacific is one of utmost importance – this sets the tone for the 22nd EAMSC.
